  3. Shouldn't pilots be focused on flying not watching movies?
  4. I will have to have it uploaded tomorrow, however when running it through a checker nothing came up. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it!
  5. I'm assisting a friend on some code and their is an issue: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ',' or ';' in /home/hawaiian/public_html/core/templates/pilots_list.tpl on line 59 <td><?php if($pilot->retired == '1') {echo '<img src="'www.hawaiianairva.com/lib/skins/BrettLoweUALSkin/images/no.png'" alt="warning" /> - Retired';} else {echo '<img src="'www.hawaiianairva.com/lib/skins/BrettLoweUALSkin/images/yes.png'" alt="warning" /> - Active';} ?></td> <?php I know what the parse error means etc. however my php skills are in the development process so any help as to where the issue is would be much appreciated.
  6. If you guys sent them a letter a week eventually they would give in:)
  7. From my experience this has never been an issue but yeah you don't ever know. Also I am glad you found some help from the previous posts and I wish you the best of luck! I apologize for not knowing how to quote the exact post, however the following posts are from joeri. I in no way meant to bash these developer. Quite honestly their work is very good and I have used their ACARS systems in the past. While kACARS can be customized it still really isn't what I would consider "private custom" for the fact that you can add a bunch of modules however overall it is the same deal and many VA's use a custom kACARS(or the free one). Pilots want a unique experience and in my opinion the same acars others have is not unique. I do agree though that your custom logo and colors can add a personal touch. I have to give anyone involved with phpvms development credit. It is truly a brilliant development giving your average guy/gal the chance of creating a great VA. After saying this though it would be my recommendation to eventually move away to phpvms to develop a more personalized system that you can do anything you want with. Now before anyone says phpvms is just a base and can be taken anywhere...after you manipulate phpvms to that anywhere extent it really isn't phpvms but rather a custom system. Also most VA's on phpvms don't manipulate it much. 1. Yes, I do enjoy visiting these forums 2. I have used the phpvms system with different VA's I have been a pilot at(or staff in a couple cases) 3. Don't worry about the last part: the VA I am a staff member at has moved from phpvms to a new custom system. I never meant to take a shot at anyone so I apologize if it came off as such. As I said above I respect the 4 developers. My post simply says I recommend moving to a custom system in order to provide pilots with a unique, different experience. I am not advocating moving from phpvms and the ACARS systems due to a dislike of them. I hope I could clear things up. I do apologize if it seems I have brought the post off topic. If anyone feels this way I would be happy to remove the bottom half of my post which replies to previous comments. Just send me a PM Regards, Michael
  8. If I'm a virtual pilot what do I want? Well the above question seems simple however the opposite is true. Since we are in such a diverse community people enjoy totally different things. Some pilots enjoy a realistic virtual airline simulating financials and PART121 air carrier standards while others like the fly anywhere virtual airline. The first thing you need to do is look at what most pilots look for in a virtual airline. It is important to provide your pilots with the best resources available. This mean you need solid fleet downloads and easy yet nice website layout. It is also important to look into communication forms such as teamspeak. Another important resource in my opinion at least is a solid flight tracking system. The free ones for phpvms are over used and can show a lack of develop on the staff end. I recommend developing a private custom acars system. There are people out there that you can hire for free. Eventually it makes sense to develop your own custom system and move away from php. This can be free or cost money depending on who you can find. The other thing you need to do is decide how you want to run your airline. Do you want to be that realistic airline following Hawaiian's operations to the tee or do you want to stray from that. After deciding this you have to realize that some pilots will enjoy your chosen style and others will not. However there is a large market for either side. After reading this you are probably thinking i'm crazy and what I am saying is unrealistic. I realize that the costs can add up however in all honesty the best virtual airlines often spend more money. This isn't always the case though. Right now my and others are developing a brand new airline. We are working on our custom system, flight tracking software, and more! The cost for this...free(besides web hosting costs). It really comes down to who you can find. Of course remember pilots also like the little things: events, kind staff members, etc. People want to feel welcomed in your community. Edit: Two other things that can boost activity. One, set up a rewards program for pilots where they can earn badges for maybe flying all your routes to Asia or having 200 complete legs. Two, you can set a pilot of the year award or something where you can give away a payware prize(that obviously does cost some money). With these pilots can compete against each other and fly to earn all of the awards etc. Regards, Michael
  9. That is exactly what I said last week but it did nothing. Yes posts get locked but only after the abuse continues over a long period of time. For example if you go to the emirates thread a rude comment was made towards the top and right there it should have been locked or something. As you can see now the thread went of track for some time because of that comment. It is ridiculous what is going on.
  10. Well it seems my plea to the PHPVMS forums has really....well not worked. Someone suggested starting a separate thread for the people(I will not name) to fight about their personal issues rather than hijacking a post. Then a forum staff member suggested that rather than bring up the thread idea some action should be done. I hope I was understanding the comments correctly if not I apologize and have not specifically mentioned any names in case. Basically I am sick and tired of what is going in the VA Discussion forum. I really ticks me off that in my opinion nothing is being done to prevent the hijacking of posts. Obviously I am not a moderator/staff member on the forums here however I am choosing to do something on my own. I can't lock posts or anything so here is my move. Everyone with a personal agenda or grievance against someone go ahead and hash it out here. I would ask this to be civil and hopefully no one posts any rude comments. However my observations show that rude things will be said and yeah.... Once again I am sick and tired of nothing being done to prevent this so I am being proactive and trying something. Who knows if it will work but it will be more than anything else I have seen done.
  11. Can't we all play nice? This is in no way meant to be offensive so I apologize if anyone takes offense however the above comment made me think. We talk about free hosts being cheap(obviously since it's free:P) and means that an owner has no interest in their VA....however doesn't phpvms mean the same thing. Rather that hire or find a programmer to create their own custom system/tracker they go to phpvms which is as we know...100% free. Might I add that I'm not saying there is a problem with this. I don't know just some food for thought. Also I realize it is off topic so in order to simply keep it on the first posters topic feel free not to reply to the above remarks I have made. Good luck Daniel! Regards, Michael
  12. The holiday season is coming around and I feel like contributing to the FS community. At this time I am willing to work with a VA or two who would like a custom skin or some repaints to be done. As far as web design goes I don't know much php so don't ask for custom modules etc, I am offering design services only. Feel free to PM me if interested.
  13. I have recently noticed through reviewing posts that it seems many issues have risen. It is sad to see the forums (virtual airline discussion in particular) turn into a mud pit of hatred. I feel like many comments are just driven because someone has an axe to grind. It especially offends me to see that when someone posts one news announcement it turn into a fighting match between others for something totally off topic. I am writing this today to urge all members to stop bashful comments. If you have a problem with someone please don't post it for the world to see. Some say they do it to expose the fraud but is it worth it, all it does is start huge backlash. Please, and I beg everyone to stop this hate speech but instead be encouraging and supportive. Aren't we all here for our love of aviation. My suggestion is to adopt a zero tolerance policy. The minute a post slides off topic or consists of a mean remark the post should just be locked. This will prevent pages of drama. I thank all of you for taking the time to read this. I wish you all happy holidays no matter what you may be celebrating during these joyful times! Kindest Regards, Michael
