Unless otherwise indicated, all addons fall under the following license:

Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported License

A quick summary:

Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported

You are free:

  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work
  • to Remix — to adapt the work

Under the following conditions:

  • Attribution — You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
    Attribute this work:
What does "Attribute this work" mean? The page you came from contained embedded licensing metadata, including how the creator wishes to be attributed for re-use. You can use the HTML here to cite the work. Doing so will also include metadata on your page so that others can find the original work as well.
  • Noncommercial — You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
  • Share Alike — If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work only under the same or similar license to this one.

You can sell addons you've created, but do not sell add-ons which are not wholly yours, or you've gotten community input on. That's in bad taste, and is not good! You can however charge to setup an install, and customize. If add-ons are included in that 'customization', ask the addon author first and get their permission for being able to include their customization in your service. Remember the license is non-commercial and can only be waived with express permission of the author.

So to recap

  1. You can sell addons you've created
  2. You didn't create it - you can't sell it
  3. If you want to include it in a package you're selling, you must get permission from the author. This includes any 'service' fees (for installation, updates, etc)

So please, follow the rules and don't be a chump!

I agree. I am a relative newcomer to phpVMS, and what got me hooked is the community spirit behind the software. That and the fact that phpVMS is very easy to work with, very well coded and the add-ons provided by others are a great bonus too. I believe in thanking someone who has helped me, by placing links to the authors website etc, when using any addons and also phpVMS itself too. It's my small way of showing my appreciation. I think anyone who tries to make financial gains off other peoples work should really be ashamed of themselves. The same applies for people who try to pass off other peoples work as their own. I have no problem with people who want to commercialise their own work, but when people are being sly and dishonest, it makes me pretty angry. The same goes for people who are trying to sell their services as web designers but clearly lack experience and the skills neccessary. I'm not tarring everyone with the same brush, as there as some very talented designers on these forums. But there are also those who are just hoping to use this forum as a cash cow, have little knowledge and experience and that makes me angry too.

Rant over now, and I am off to find the dummy I just spat out :P
