Requirements

  • PHP 5.2+
  • MySQL 4.1+ with InnoDB support

Recommended extras:

  • GD Image Library
  • allow_url_fopen set to ON or cURL

phpVMS uses some of the “advanced” features of MySQL, mainly foreign keys. This will ensure the integrity of your data. These are enabled by most DB software, and it's implemented by MySQL in InnoDB tables. Chances are, your host has InnoDB enabled (the default table types are MyISAM). If you don't, usually a quick email to them and they will enable it for you.

cURL is also required to contact outside hosts (namely the phpVMS API server for airport information and fuel prices).

I do not recommend using free hosts, as I've noticed many problems with them. They are often overloaded, and do not give access to some PHP features. They're also very stingy and limited on resource usage, which could mean your pilots won't be able to file PIREPs, or use ACARS properly (we're seen these issues repeatedly in the forums!)

Note: At the end of the install, phpVMS sends some information to me, including your site name, url, the version of phpVMS, and the PHP version. This isn't made public, and is used for planning for future updates. This happens in versions after 1.1.458. This method will be used for future expansions and updates, for different mechanisms.

Shameless Plug:

An excellent host (which I have used for years and years, and use for clients) is Site5. If you're in need of hosting, please use this referral link for Site5. It will kick back a few bucks to me for whichever plan you end up signing for. Thanks!
