Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport is Atlantic Canada’s principal full-service airport providing passengers and cargo clients with access to markets across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean Basin, and Europe. It’s the only airport in Atlantic Canada to offer Canada Customs services on a 24 hour, seven day a week basis, and U.S. preclearance.

The Airport, a major economic generator valued at $1.26 billion to the provincial economy, welcomes over 3.5 million passengers annually; gives back through its Community Outreach Program and its Signature Partnership with Habitat for Humanity; and is an internationally recognized leader in customer service, having been rated the Best Airport in the World in its class for seven of the past nine years and certified as Airport Service Quality Assured – an industry benchmark of service excellence.

During Operation Yellow Ribbon on September 11, 2001, the Halifax Airport handled the diversion of 47 US-bound aircraft that had been diverted from American airspace in the aftermath of the September 11th disaster.

On January 21, 2013 the airport officially opened the $28 million extension to 05/23, resulting in an increase in runway length from 8,800ft to 10,500ft. CYHZ can now handle just about anything with wings.

Moncton FIR invites all pilots and virutal airlines to join them on Wednesday, February 13th between 19h00est-23h00est (24h00z-04h00z) on the VATSIM network staff the Halifax Airport from the ground up during this four hour event! Challenge our controllers with as much and as varied traffic as you can throw at us! Fly in from one of our local airports or from outside the zone! Depart to one of our regional fields or to your home FIR/ARTCC. The choice is yours, but whatever choice you make on February 13th, fly Halifax!
