  1. So, to the OP - What is it you hope to get out of this VA? What will make you different from the rest?

Well, congratulations to tgycgijoes for not dignifying this pretentious, arrogant and self-centered post with an answer.

And after time you start to get less and less sympathetic for new VAs

I think that's more your problem than that of new VAs. I agree with being fed up with the issues of serial offenders, plagiarism and copyright issues and have no sympathy towards that sort of offender. However if none of that is involved, then I don't think you should bother participating, especially in cases like this where - and I've said this in the previous post - the original poster DID NOT ask for any opinion on his VA.

And sorry, I don't buy the excuse of "constructive criticism" when so many posts by you and others are just one-liners with words like "rubbish", "eyesore", "awful" and the like. If you wanted to help new users in any way you'd probably take 5 minutes to write something that actually contained advice of any sort. What you do normally is just rude, mindless bullying.

Good luck to tgycgijoes with his project.

  2. So with my new VA nearing completion I need to start thinking about advertising for pilots etc... Where would be a good place to advertise?

    Any help would be great!

    Hi there

Forums like avsim, flightsim.com, IVAO and VATSIM boards are probably the places that will get you the most visibility. Facebook is also an interesting place.

    Cheers

  3. Hello there,

I am just about to start a european low-cost virtual airline that I've been working on with my friend who painted the fleet for about a month or two. However, our sponsor has turned out, claiming that he's simply not interested anymore. So we're a flying double now. My question is mainly how to attract people onto management opportunities such as PMDG instructors, marketing or HR directors. And is there any possibility of finding solid crew before the airline opens up? The trouble is, we want to make the best impression out there, and as we know, first impressions last, so quite frankly, we're not ready to open up yet. Besides, we don't know anyone from our "circles" that could join the airline, as instructors or directors of any sort - most of people I know don't play FSX. How could I advertise the airline for staff to join before it opens doors? I know may sound a little bit odd at first, but I guess a good team to start off with is the key to success.

Another question is a host-based question. Is it better to go for a fivedev promotion (correct me if I'm wrong, but 12 months seems cheaper on the booking form than 1 or 3, which is a hell of a bargain!) and take the 12 months, or instead take 3 months, in case the airline fails? I have good belief in the success of it, but so far, we're a double, and I'm simply afraid that they're might not be enough support from the community.

    Hi

I understand your intentions on the staff. My simple advice is - don't. Hiring "direct entry" staff is something that most of the times does not work well. You will find that most people who apply seem enthusiastic and friendly, but in practical terms, most of them will not correspond in terms of work. What's worse, you may end up with people who do not follow your ideas or steal work from you. Don't get me wrong, most of them do not have bad intentions, but it is very very rare that you end up with staff members who perform according to your expectations in such cases.

I know this phase of setting up the VA is huge work, but if you can pull it through, the best option is to do it yourselves. For other staff, my advice is to wait until you have pilots who are interested and active, and then you may consider inviting them. They will feel appreciated and you will have the advantage of knowing them. What's more, they will know the airline well from inside and that is very good.

As for the promotion, wait until everything (site and contents) is finished, tested and ready to operate. Many aspiring VA owners fail to understand this and publicize sites that aren't finished or - worse - even started, and that is a big mistake, as it will turn many pilots away. The key is being patient and paying attention to every little detail.

As for the fictional / real VA debate, I think you have nothing to lose and it certainly is not a disadvantage being fictional. To start, you won't have to worry with permissions / copyright issues from the real airline and also that there may be 3 / 4 other versions of the same airline out there. What's more, with a fictional VA you are free to build a fleet / route network with variety to suit your tastes and not just be "chained" to a real-world counterpart that limits what you can do. Some "real" VA owners people go around this by creating ficticious schedules / operations that do not exist. That to me is pointless - why bother with copying a real airline if deep down you are not happy with its operations??? Better go fictional and really suit your tastes, just my opinion.

Good luck with your VA :)

    Cheers

  4. I don't like to wade into these controversies but I agree, the constant put-down here is just awful and has gone too far. What is even more significant here is that the original poster DID NOT even ask for opinion / feedback on the site, simply made the innocent mistake - as many before - of advertising for pilots here.

I know there have been issues before with plagiarists, impatient and rude kids etc, that have rightfully gotten many users fed up. But it seems the tension has now gone too far, up to a point where new users are almost automatically looked down upon. Is that what we really want for the community?

Some will say they always speak their minds because they like frontality. Fair enough. Just keep in mind that frontality and rudeness are not the same, nor is one an excuse for the other. Not trying to flame or step on anyone's toes, just my opinion as a phpvms and forum user.

    Blue skies, everyone.

  5. Hola António,

We have had a few issues lately that have put all ideas on stand by... but I was going to release a small update soon in a new topic to explain and give an update on everything, just waiting for important things to be completed :)

    Thanks for asking.

    Kind Regards,

    Matthew

    Hi Matthew

Ah that's great, it would be a shame not to see Palmair flying. Good luck with everything ;)

  6. Did you fill in the range, weight and cruise in the form? As they are required aswell as the information at the top. Or the system wont be able to figure out how much passengers to load when a pirep is filed.

Yep, filled every field, still no luck :(

  7. Hello

Apologies if this is elsewhere, I have been searching the forums and I couldn't find the information.

I want to add to my pilot badge a line with "last flight" info, in the following format:

    Last Flight: KLAX-KBOS A320-232 CS-TYB

Which is basically route, aicraft name/type and registration.

Could someone please help me with this, in terms of code and which file to edit?

    Many thanks

    Cheers

  8. Hello everyone

Jetlantic Virtual Airways - www.jetlanticva.com- is looking to renew its website. We are looking for someone capable of designing and implementing a skin and a few improvements to the site. What we want is:

    - a modern, appealing and uncluttered design

    - design to be based around the company's dominant colours - blue, grey and white

    - a custom template for the forum

    - customization of the pilot center

Concerning the front page, we want a certain number of features (logos, etc) to be present, but within that frame the designer has freedom to propose his / her ideas concerning layout, colours, etc - suggestions and creative input are very welcome. Company logos, screenshots and fonts are provided by us in .psd format.

This will be paid work and we will value someone with communication skills, keen on exchanging ideas and feedback during the design and implementation process and sensitive to the client's expectations and goals.

If you are interested, please contact us at flightops@jetlanticva.com to submit your proposal and budget. We are happy to answer any doubts and will provide a more detailed plan of what is intended. Preference will be given to candidates who can supply examples of their work. Please note we are able to pay via Paypal only.

    Kind Regards

    Antonio

  9. Hi everyone

After installation, I created a few schedules as a test, and then tried uploading some via .CSV files, and ended up with a few duplicated ones. Now I have all my schedules correctly created in an .CSV file and I want to upload them, but I wanted to delete all the ones I already created before for a clean install. However I can't figure out how to do this, I only see the option of switching between "active" and "inactive" schedules on the phpvms console, not deleting.

Can someone help me with this please?

    Thanks.

  10. Hi

I'm having a problem with my website. I successfully installed phpvms and was going to start skinning, but I am unable to open the site. Instead of launching the page, I get a download prompt in which my browser asks me if I want to download "myurl_com" as an unknown file type. Up until yesterday I could visualize and log on normally, but this started happening today. I spoke to my web provider's support and they told me this probably had to to with the file type - showing as "application/x-http-d" in cPanel. Can anyone help me in dealing with this?

    Thank you.

  11. Ok I managed to start the installer :)

Now I get the following message when checking database connection:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'myusername'@'localhost' (using p!@#$word: YES) in /home/mydatabase/public_html/core/cl!@#$es/MySQL.cl!@#$.php on line 121

Access denied for user 'myusername'@'localhost' (using p!@#$word: YES)

I had already created a database and a user with all privileges, what could be wrong here?

Never mind that, I was putting the data in the wrong format. All ok now :)

  13. Hi Joeri

thank you very much for your help. However, once I type that I get a "404 - page not found" error. Could it be that I placed the folders in the wrong place? I had the following options in File Manager:

    Home Directory

    Web Root (public_html/www)

    Public FTP Root (public_ftp)

    Document Root for:

and I placed the phpvms folder in "Home" is this correct?

    Thanks
