Madeira Airport (LPMA), formerly known as Santa Catarina Airport and informally known as Funchal Airport, is an international airport in the civil parish of Santa Catarina, municipality of Santa Cruz, in the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira. The airport was once infamous for its short runway which, surrounded by high mountains and the ocean, made it a tricky landing for even the most experienced of pilots. Its innovative solution allowed Funchal to receive the Outstanding Structure Award in 2004 by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering, which aims at recognizing the most remarkable, innovative, creative or otherwise stimulating structure co…

It is a great pleasure to announce that TexAir Virtual Airlines has returned to the virtual skies after a long hiatus. We have a great, fully-functional, new website (at our old location texairvirtual.org I might add) with lots of features and awards for pilots to pursue. We return with the same all-Boeing mainline fleet and that one-of-a-kind massive flight schedule similar to that of a legacy carrier, but with lots of routes no one flies thrown in. We've upgraded our terminals at all of our old hubs in Austin, Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, Minneapolis, Washington, and Tampa - once again making it obvious why everything is bigger about Texas. What has changed is our atti…

Lots of great things have been happening at TexAir in the last few weeks. Our flight schedule is flat out massive, but just over 1/2 complete restoring it to what it once was. We've always compared our routes to that of a legacy carrier, but utilizing different or more off-the-beaten-path crew bases and focus airports. We've also been adding a lot of little details and functionality within the website, making the pilot experience more enjoyable by the day. This week, we just added three great features that we've never had before, and pilots are reacting well over the additions. We announced our new partnership with SimBrief, in which pilots can get an automated dispatch …

The Alps are the highest and most extensive mountain range system that lies entirely in Europe, stretching approximately 1,200 kilometres (750 mi) across eight Alpine countries: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Slovenia, and Switzerland. The Alpine region has a strong cultural identity. The traditional culture of farming, cheese making, and woodworking still exists in Alpine villages, although the tourist industry began to grow early in the 20th century and expanded greatly after World War II to become the dominant industry by the end of the century. The Winter Olympic Games have been hosted in the Swiss, French, Italian, Austrian and German Alps. …

This month, we are heading to the checkerboard at Kai Tak which closed in July 1998. With numerous skyscrapers and mountains located to the north and its only runway jutting out into Victoria Harbour, landings at the airport were dramatic to experience and technically demanding for pilots. The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranked it as the 6th most dangerous airport in the world. Your mission is to depart from Ninoy Aquino (RPLL) and head to Kai Tak (VHHX) with the Canadian Xpress freeware or payware aircraft at your pilot rank level ONLY for this event. This means, a Master ATP rated pilot can only fly aircraft rated in the Master ATP service rank, Pilot…

Hi, I'm currently building a new VA called Inspire Air, flying out of EGCC (Manchester, UK), with plans to then create more hubs as things progress. I want to try and keep the VA open to FSX and X-Plane uses and also to be able to run on either Windows or Mac OSX. In other words I don't want users to be limited dependant on what they have at their disposal. I have purchased all the domains and built my server which is also hosting an instance of phpVMS. I want to make sure things are as good as perfect before I launch the VA otherwise I imagine it won't be a success. So I'm currently looking for staff to help me now I have most of the basics completed. I'm currently …
