This month, we head to Central America where if you dig mountain scenery, then that might help you feel a little less queasy about flying in or out of Toncontin Airport (MHTG) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Aircraft have to skirt around the mountains of the interior highlands to land in a valley 3,294 feet above sea level. On approach, airliners as big as Boeing 757s make a 45-degree bank to effectively reach the 7000-foot runway with well above average rates of descent. Winds require pilots to compensate while hustling their aircraft in a zig-zag path over the terrain. Departures require high rates of climb to clear the nearby peaks. Your mission is to departing from Miami (KMIA) and head to Toncontin (MHTG) with either the Canadian Xpress Airbus A320-211 or Boeing 737-900 which is available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The March 2016 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from March 1st until March 28th, 2016 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a loosely defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. According to the US Navy, the triangle does not exist and the name is not recognized by the US Board on Geographic Names. Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormal or activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported or embellished by later authors. In a 2013 study, the World Wide Fund for Nature identified the world’s 10 most dangerous waters for shipping, but the Bermuda Triangle was not among them. We don’t want to test this any of these theories so we are going to stay north of the triangle as we approach from New York City. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, February 20th at 10h00est (15h00z) and 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our February 2016 fly-in where we fly from New York (KJFK) to Bermuda (TXKF). This month, we depart Marseille Provence Airport (LFML) and travel to Courchevel is an airport serving Courchevel (LFML), a ski resort in the French Alps. The airfield has a very short runway of only 537 metres (1,762 ft) with a gradient of 18.6%. There is no go-around procedure for landings at Courchevel, due to the surrounding mountainous terrain. De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otters and DHC-7 turboprops served the airport in the past; however, the airfield primarily sees smaller fixed-wing aircraft such as Cessnas as well as helicopters at present. The runway has no instrument approach procedure or lighting aids, thus making landing in fog and low clouds unsafe and almost impossible. The airport is considered dangerous, as it features a difficult approach, an upslope runway and ski runs in the adjacent area. The History Channel program Most Extreme Airports ranks it as the seventh most dangerous airport in the world. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The February 2016 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from February 1st until February 26th, 2016 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.

We start the New Year off with a return to one of the most talked about and enjoyed fly-ins we have done thus far. The trip in to Ketchikan Alaska is by far the favorite of everyone, who has been around Canadian Xpress over the last 6½ years. Ketchikan (PAKT) has no direct road access, nor does its airport. Passengers must take a 7 min ferry ride across the harbour to reach the airport. Along with its breath taking scenery, it’s every pilots dream to see. But don’t lose sight of what you’re doing, the terrain causes turbulence on arrival and departure, plus there are air taxis, and sea planes landing and taking off on the harbour, along with local bears and the odd moose that will wonder on to the runway as well. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, January 23rd at 10h00est (15h00z) and 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our January 2016 fly-in where we fly from Juneau (PAJN) to Ketchikan (PAKT). This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and Canadian Xpress Model Sets can be viewed by visiting www.CanadianXpress.ca or by directly downloading our Fly-In document here. This month, we depart Chengdu Shuangli (ZUUU) and travel to the highest airport supported in the FS world, Qamdo-Bangda (ZUBD) Tibet that has an elevation of 14,219 ft. Runway 14/32 is the longest publicly used runway in the world, at 18,045 ft or 3.42 miles. Until 2013, Qamdo-Bangda (ZUBD) was the highest airport in the world. That title is now held by Daocheng Yading Airport which is 238 ft higher, however no scenery is currently available to support a support an event. The low air density at this altitude makes a higher takeoff and landing true airspeed necessary, and therefore a longer runway. The airport is 2.5 hours by mountain road from the county seat of Chamdu. The long commute is the result of no flat land closer to the city being available to construct an airport. Visitors are warned before landing to move slowly on leaving the plane and that they may feel light headed or dizzy because of the thin air. Qamdo-Bangda (ZUBD) is not in FS by default, you must add the scenery and update any nav databases (Plan-G, FSC, etc.) before making this flight. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The January 2016 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from January 2nd until January 29th, 2016 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.

[Dec.19] Canadian Xpress December Fly-In - Snow & Ice
CXA001 posted a topic in Virtual Airlines News
Last month, we enjoyed some fun in the sun and sand. This month we are going to the extreme opposite and head to the land of ice and snow. This month, we are switching to cargo aircraft and following a Buffalo Airways route from Yellowknife (CYZF) to Norman Wells (CYVQ). The route is just under 400 miles and since it is cargo, we would like to see everyone operate a Cargo aircraft. To simulate the route even more, pilots are encouraged to operate the Douglas DC3 or the Hawker Siddeley HS.748 which are the 2 oldest aircraft in our fleet and require the most skill to operate in the cold environment of the Canadian North. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, December 19th at 10h00est (15h00z) and 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our December 2015 fly-in where we fly from Yellowknife (CYZF) to Norman Wells (CYVQ). See you all on Saturday the 19th! -
This month we hit 2 of the world’s most dangerous approaches in the warm Caribbean. Saba, Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport has the shortest commercial runway in the world, only 396 meters (1,299 ft) long, flanked on one side by high hills, with cliffs that drop into the sea at both ends. Saint Barthélemy, Gustaf III Airport short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle; departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers. Ranked the 3rd most extreme airport in the world by The History Channel. This month, your mission is to depart from Princess Juliana (TNCM) on the Island of Saint Maarten with the Canadian Xpress DeHavilland Dash 6-Q300 and fly to Saba (SABA or TNCS) then on to Saint Barthélemy (TFFJ) before returning to Princess Juliana (TNCM). Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The December 2015 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from December 1st until December 28th, 2015 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.

Fly the Concorde Anniversary Tour with the Canadian Xpress Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde is a turbojet-powered supersonic passenger jet airliner. It featured a maximum speed over twice the speed of sound at Mach 2.04, with seating for 92 to 128 passengers. First flown in 1969, Concorde entered service in 1976 and continued commercial flights for 27 years until 2003. It is one of only two supersonic transports to have entered commercial service; the other was the Tupolev Tu-144. Concorde was jointly developed and produced by Aérospatiale and the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) under an Anglo-French treaty. Concorde's name reflects the development agreement between the United Kingdom and France. In the UK, any or all of the type-unusually for an aircraft-are known simply as 'Concorde', without an article. A total of 20 aircraft were built in France and the United Kingdom; six of these were prototypes and development aircraft. Seven each were delivered to Air France and British Airways. With only 20 aircraft built, the development of Concorde was a substantial economic loss; Air France and British Airways received considerable government subsidies to purchase them. Concorde was retired in 2003 due to a general downturn in the aviation industry after the type's only crash in 2000, the 11 September terrorist attacks in 2001, and a decision by Airbus, the successor firm of Aérospatiale and BAC, to discontinue maintenance support. The Canadian Xpress Concorde Anniversary Tour consists of 18 legs which must be flown in order, starts where the last flight of the Concorde landed 12 years ago on November 26th 2003, at Bristol Filton Airport (EGTG). Filton is closed today to commercial operations, however private and EMS flights still operate from there. Join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca and fly the Concorde Anniversary Tour! *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

Paro Airport has an elevation of 7,300 feet with surrounding peaks as high as 18,000 feet. It is considered one of the world's most challenging airports in the world as only eight pilots worldwide are certified to land at this airport. Flights at Paro are allowed under visual meteorological conditions only and are restricted to daylight hours from sunrise to sunset. It is one of only four airports in Bhutan. This month, your mission is to depart from Zia International Airport (VGZR) and fly to spectacular Paro (VQPR) with either the Bombardier CRJ-700 or Dash 8-Q400 which is available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge. Back in early 2009 a close group friends and pilots found themselves without a virtual airline to call home. They could have just went and found a new one, but instead they decided to stick together and build a new virtual airline from the ground up and on September 4th, 2009 Canadian Xpress officially opened. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, August 29th at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our August 2015 fly-in and help us celebrate our 6th anniversary where we fly from our training base in Moncton (CYQM) to our operational headquarters in Montreal (CYUL). This month, we pick up where we left off way back in June of 2014 with our Dangerous Airports Challenges. Our next few events will take you on some of the most dangerous approaches and airports in the world. Eventually, these challenges will become part of a Dangerous Airports tour. This month’s challenge take us from Telluride (KTEX) to Aspen (KASE). Pilots must be certified to land in Aspen, because the approach requires a swift descent through the mountains to a high altitude landing, so study your approach charts. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The August 2015 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from August 2nd until August 29th, 2015 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.

Anyone who is a fan of all things that fly, has probably watched The Discovery's Channels series called Mighty Planes. The 5th episode of their second season which aired in the middle of June was on the Boeing 737-200 operated by Nolinor Aviation based out of Montreal Mirabel airport. The show covered the operation of the 737-200 as it traveled from Mirabel to Val-D'Or, here it loaded up cargo for the giant mining company Agnico Eagle for transport to their Meadowbank mine in Nunavut. For this month's fly-in we wanted to recreate that route, however its 3+ hour flight that puts it outside our target flight time for these events. Furthermore, Meadowbank is a private airport for the mine, it's not modeled within the FS world. Nolinor being a charter airline does operate all over the North so Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, July 25th at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our July 2015 fly-in where we will fly their Val-D'Or (CYVO) to Kuujjuaq (CYVP) route. FlightSimCon is the annual flight simulator show and convention for all of us simmers. This year it’s being held at the New England Air Museum at Bradley Airport just outside of Hartford CT in Windsor Locks. All the big manufactures will be there at this year’s event including Aerosoft to Saitek to name a few. This month’s fly-in is going to take place during the event in to Bradley airport. VATSIM and Boston Virtual ATC will have exhibits at FlightSimCon, so there is a good chance our fly-in will be shown live at the event. To add to the realism for this event. The departure airport for this fly-in is from your home airport as you select when connecting to VATSIM. With a goal of arriving as a group at Bradley Airport. Those whose home airport is too far away to use for departure you can start anywhere you like or join in with someone else. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, June 13th for our June 2015 fly-in we will arrive at Bradley Airport (KBDL) at 11h30edt (15h30z) or 22h00edt (Sunday 02h00z). This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network.
