Five years ago, a small group of dedicated flight simulator enthusiasts, found themselves looking for a new place to call home. Lots of ideas went back and forth and four months later with the simple slogan Fly Virtually Anywhere!, Canadian Xpress was born. In those short five years, Canadian Xpress has grown from a small start-up virtual airline with more aircraft than pilots, to a well known virtual airline within the online flight simulator community, hosting more than a hundred events a year, and currently the only VATSIM Canadian virtual airline authorized training organization (ATO) that allows us to train, evaluation and issue VATSIM P1 & P2 pilot ratings. All this hard work hasn't gone unnoticed as in early 2013, Canadian Xpress was named Sky Blue Radio's virtual airline of the year. Today, Canadian Xpress has approximately 200 pilots, a fleet of 53 aircraft, over 65,000 flights and is managed by a team of 16 virtual pilots that range from real world commercial pilots to VATSIM/IVAO network supervisors and ATC instructors. To celebrate our 5 years of operation, Canadian Xpress is going on a year long tour that consists of 13 legs and a 38,739 nautical mile trip around the world where on the first of each month, we'll announce a new route and a new destination. The Canadian Xpress 5 Year Anniversary World Tour starts at our headquarters in Montreal where our pilots will pick up one of our new Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft which is available to all pilots regardless of rank but only for the tour and begin your journey around the world. Join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca and help us celebrate 5 years of Flying Virtually Anywhere! *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

Summer is here. For those of us in the south, we have been enjoying the warm weather for a few weeks now. Cottages are open, boats are in the water, and motorcycles are filling the road ways. However, the day still ends sometime between 8:30 & 9:00pm when the sun finally sets below the horizon. This isn’t the case for everyone. Canada’s Northern Territories and Alaska, the first day of summer is the peak of all day sunlight as the sun never sets in some places. Wouldn’t it be great to go golfing at 1:00am with the sun still high in the sky? This month we celebrate the peak of 24 hour sunlight in the north with a trip to Ketchikan Alaska on the Summer Solstice. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, June 21st at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our June 2014 fly-in where we have two points of departure, one for those looking to fly something heavy Anchorage (PANC) and one for those wanting to fly a lighter prop Juneau (PAJN) and enjoy the local scenery. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and Canadian Xpress Model Sets can be viewed by visiting www.CanadianXpress.ca or by directly downloading our Fly-In document here. See you all on Saturday the 21st!

This month, we begin our Dangerous Approaches tour. These next few events will take you on some of the most dangerous approaches and airports in the world. These events will become part of a new tour later on this year. Our first stop will be Toronto’s Billy Bishop City Centre Airport, following a real world flight of Porter Airlines. One may not see Toronto City Centre as a dangerous airport. However, when you realize its approach path takes you into and then below one of the busiest airspaces in Canada. Toronto City Center is located on an island next to the downtown core of Canada’s largest city. Land long on this runway and you’re going to get more than your feet wet. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The June 2014 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from June 1st until June 29th, 2014 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

[May 17] Canadian Xpress May Fly-In: Mount St. Helens
CXA001 posted a topic in Virtual Airlines News
On May 18th, 1980 at 8:32pst, Mount St. Helens after 2 months of increased seismic activity, catastrophically erupted. The eruption triggered an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale causing the North face to collapse into the Columbia River basin and reducing the mountain’s summit elevation from 9,677 ft to 8,365 ft. By 17:30pst that evening after more than 9 hours of a vigorous plume of ash, reaching 16 miles above seas level, the ash column began to decline. On that day 34 years ago this month, Mount St. Helens released 24 megatons of thermal energy, 1.5 tons of sulfur dioxide and 2.8 cubic kilometers of debris. Sadly the event also killed 57 people, and nearly 7000 big game animals from the mountain area. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, May 17th at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our May 2014 fly-in where to those who lost their lives in this tragic event and fly from Denver (KDEN) to Seattle (KSEA). On April 10th 1976, Air France made its first commercial passenger flight with Concorde. That first flight took passengers from Paris to Rio via the Azores which later changing to Dakar. The stop in the Azores was needed so that Concorde could refuel. The aircraft used an astonishing 2 tons of fuel just to taxi to the runway (2% of its total fuel load) in Paris. Normal operations called for the two inboard engines to be shut down as the aircraft exited the runway after landing, to help save on fuel cost. In 2003 BA and Air France both announced they would stop flying the Concorde after 27 years of service. Lots of reason still float around today as to why it was retired. But truth be told, it was simply due to cost. The Concorde was able to achieve a fuel rating of 15.8pm/g, which means the energy in one gallon of fuel would move one passenger 15.6 miles. Where a 747 has a 46.4pm/g fuel rating. So it’s easy to see, it cost a lot less flying a 747 than a Concorde, sure it’s at a third of the speed, but you’re carrying 4½ times the passengers. Canadian Xpress® would like to invite all pilots & virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, April 19th at 20h00edt (24h00z) for our April 2014 fly-in where we are going to pay tribute to the fasted commercial aircraft ever built and fly the first leg of Air France’s first commercial route that started 38 years ago, this month and fly from Paris Charles DeGaule (LFPG) to Santa Maria (LPAZ). Canadian Xpress April 2014 Challenge: Easter Egg Hunt
CXA001 posted a topic in Virtual Airlines News
This month is about FlightSim Easter Eggs. What is an FS Easter Egg you might ask? Easter Eggs in the computer software world are little hidden secrets developers write in to their software to give you a little shock and surprise should you find them. Easter Eggs have been in FlightSim since the early days back as far as FS4. Where the Prudential sign on One Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago, would light up as the sun set. FS2000 added more Easter Eggs, like the tethered weather blimp 14,000 feet above the Florida Keys. Some of these Easter Eggs are very time specific, where others can be seen at any time. For this month’s challenge we are going back in time, back to 1983 to see the Kilauea volcano eruption. The volcano is still erupting today, but the main eruption happened on January 3, 1983. So the FlightSim Easter Egg only shows up in 1983. The Challenge is easy this month, load up your favorite piston powered single engine aircraft from the CXA fleet (that you have the rank to fly) for a 75 nm sightseeing flight from Hilo Intl (PHTO) to Kilauea finishing at Kona Intl (PHKO). Set your sim time to January 3, 1983 at 5:20pm local time for the best view. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The April 2014 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from April 2nd until April 27th, 2014 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits. -
Spring Break for most, is a week away somewhere warm, sunny and south. Well not everyone goes south for spring break. Spring Break is also the second busiest time of the year for the major ski areas across Canada and the northern US states, after Christmas. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots and virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, March 22nd at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our March 2014 fly-in where we fly Porter Airlines real world routes and one of their more popular flights from Toronto Billy Bishop Island Airport (CYTZ) to Mont Tremblant International Airport (CYFJ). There is a real world no-jet restriction at Toronto Island airport which will be applicable for this event, so this will be a prop aircraft event only. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress sponsored event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. More information regarding this event including operational details, charts, optional add-on scenery and the Canadian Xpress SB Model Set can be viewed by visiting www.CanadianXpress.ca or by directly downloading our Fly-In document here. Diamonds are forever, but it takes a lot of work to find them and too get them out of the ground. The Canadian North produces some of the finest diamonds in the world. Working underground and in the Canadian North can be very problematic for personal and equipment. The diamond mines of the North are only accessible by ice road during the winter months. During this short 10 week period, hundreds of trucks pull thousands of tons of equipment out to these remote locations. However it’s still a year round operation, so in the months when there is no ice road, the only way to get in to these mines is by air. The ice roads are gone but there is still a lot of small equipment that needs to be moved. This month, your job is to load up the DeHavilland Dash 7-Q101F or the Hawker Siddeley HS.748 which are available to all pilots regardless of rank but only for the challenge in Yellowknife (CYZF) and fly a short hop over to Ekati (CYOA) and then fly the return leg back to Yellowknife (CYZF). Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The March 2014 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from March 2nd until March 29th, 2014 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

With the start of the New Year, it also brings the hype of the final countdown to the 22nd Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. The first winter Olympics was held in Chamonix, France in 1924. The original sports were alpine and cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping and speed skating. The Games were held every four years from 1924 until 1936, after which they were interrupted by World War II. The Olympics resumed in 1948 and were celebrated every four years. The Winter & Summer Olympic Games were held in the same years until 1992, after a 1986 decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to place the Summer & Winter Games on separate four-year cycles in alternating even-numbered years. Because of the change, the next Winter Olympics after 1992 were in 1994. So to celebrate and support the athletes that will be heading to Soch in the next few weeks, Canadian Xpress will be visiting North American Winter Olympic sites. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Download product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The January 2014 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from January 1st until January 30th, 2014 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

There is no better way to spend Christmas then on Christmas Island as suggested by Franklin Duncan (CXA911). Kiritimati or Christmas Island is a Pacific Ocean atoll in the northern Line Islands and part of the Republic of Kiribati. The island has the greatest land area of any coral atoll in the world and is well known for its world class bone fishing. It also has excellent bird watching and surfing opportunities. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots and virtual airlines to join us on Saturday, December 21st at 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our December 2013 fly-in where we will depart from Kona Hawaii (PHKO) and fly south to Kirimati (PLCH) which has a 6900 feet runway. So join us for a warm and sunny Christmas this year! This month’s challenge was submitted by Phil Power (CXA872) who lives in Fredericton, New Brunswick, where in the winter months Sunwing tours shows up with a Boeing 737-800 and operates weekly direct flights to Veradero, Cuba. This is the longest direct flight that operates out of Fredericton where normally Toronto and Montreal are the only long haul direct flights out of Fredericton. This month, we pack up all the sun screen we can find and load up the Canadian Xpress® Boeing 737-900 (as we don’t have a 738) which is available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge in Fredericton (CYFC) with a bunch of pasty white east coasters looking to escape the snow and rain and head for the white sandy beaches of Veradero (MUVR) Cuba. Join Canadian Xpress® today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Download product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ The December 2013 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress® pilots from December 1st until December 30th, 2013 so join Canadian Xpress® today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress® accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

The acronym SDU-CGH is probably not familiar to most of us discovering Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. This month’s challenge and its name, was inspired by a YouTube Video posted by Paul (CXA002) of an A320 crew on approach to Queenstown New Zealand. This is a fairly common route so you’ll be operating with a passenger load of around 80% after fuel planning. Join Canadian Xpress® today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won. First Place: 25 bonus flight hours (enables you to climb the ranks faster in order to fly larger, more challenging aircraft) and the Monthly Challenge Award added to his/her name in the Pilot Roster: In addition, any Download product from: http://www.aerosoft.com/ Second Place: 15 bonus flight hours (enables you to climb the ranks faster in order to fly larger, more challenging aircraft); Third Place: 10 bonus flight hours (enables you to climb the ranks faster in order to fly larger, more challenging aircraft); The November 2013 Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress® pilots from November 2nd until November 30th, 2013 so join Canadian Xpress® today by visiting http://CanadianXpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress® accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.

Just a few weeks ago the 34th America’s Cup conclude in San Francisco. Oracle Team USA (skippered by a New Zealander) successfully defended all challengers to keep the cup on US soil for 4 more years. However, their challenger Team New Zealand, a team with less than a third of the operating budget of Team USA, took the US team to task pushing the series to its maximum of 17 races. This month, your job is to fly the members of Team New Zealand home in style. From San Francisco (KSFO), you will load the 53 members of Team New Zealand on board the Canadian Xpress® Concorde which are available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge for the return trip to Auckland (NZAA). The Concorde doesn’t normally operate out of San Francisco but a special operations permit has been put in place by Canadian Xpress® headquarters for this trip. You don't have to use phpVMS in order to push your data to VACentral if that is what you want to do. Our web site is custom coded and were able to push our data to VACentral. However, you will need to be familiar with XML, etc. and need to create some code. As Jordanbarber indicated, this may or may not be possible with a free web service as functionalities can be quite limited (thus why it is free).

There should be a ???.ini (???= your airline ICAO code) file in the FSAcars directory. [FSacars] UnitSystem=GB PilotNumber=### --> Change this to your pilot number. If your callsign is ABC252 you would enter 252. True FSAcars is no longer supported but is still widely used and don't see why you should stop using it. FS9 & FSX are no longer supported, but lots of peopel still use it.
