The problem is the bot system has now got smarter and human beings are registering on forums and websites then turning the account into a spambot. Of course ip banning and other tools available will stop some and deter others, however its worth keeping in mind advertising companies will always seem to find a way through these tools we set.

My forum alone gets around 5 spam members a day which is a work load for our moderators to control, delete, ban on an ip level to find another 5 in a few days time...

I started experiencing this almost immediately after I released my VA's URL to the flight sim community. However, I haven't had any problems with spam accounts on phpVMS. Now, we haven't launched yet, and our advertising has been pretty weak thus far, so we might see this change down the road.

So far, though I have lucked out. I have been communicating with everyone via email, and so far, no spam.

Check out this link. I think he reinstalled it into the main directory instead of /phpvms.

I would definitely consider replacing that advertisement with something more practical. Say, an airline logo, perhaps? Maybe get a banner the same width of the navigation menu and center it along the top to give it a clean look, if you think that might be something you like.

Bump your TeamSpeak information to the sidebar, maybe?

I like this method of sorting your pilot roster, personally.

And resize the map. You'll find this in your local.config.php.

These are just basic ideas, all meant in good spirit. =)

/edit - Another thing about the map. I like that the map automatically zooms to fit your active flights into the viewing area, however I didn't like that, when there weren't active flights, it zoomed in on the New England states. Hehe. So, I altered the map info so it would sit overlooking the area our operations primarily exist in (which is worldwide). You can edit that information from your local.config.php as well, just take it slow and remember to undo it if it messes anything up.

So I set the live map on the frontpage and changed the co-ordinates to zoom over the UK but this done something to the pilot data below not sure why.

So I have changed the map co-ordinates back to the original and all seems to be working again.

anyone have any ideas?

Like someone said before get rid of the advertisment and maybe replace it with a logo or something, will make it look much better. If you don't want to get rid of the ad then maybe place it in the footer or on the side of your site.

Once you get the hang of editing it, you can see how simple it is. For instance this site was our old ObsessBlue design http://www.virginatlanticva.co.uk/josh'>http://www.virginatlanticva.co.uk/josh we used this template as a base and started editing it from there and this is what we have now http://www.virginatlanticva.co.uk which only took 2 days to do!

A good tool I find useful if your using Firefox is "Firebug" you can edit the HTML, CSS etc from firebug without having to edit the files of your site so say your not sure how to do something you can change it in Firebug and it will come up so if you do it wrong just refresh the page and its gone and if you do it right then just copy it to your files.

My site has been running for over a year now with the Obsess Blue template, maybe ill update it to the Virgin one seeing as i have a couple of days still off work, as for the ad it brings in revenue so its staying
