Given that it is important to support PHPVMS especially V7 , I feel that we need to show the world of Flight Simulation that you can run a Virtual Airline using Version 7. It is to this end that I have built a new virtual airline that has a unique and welcome feel to it hence the name of the virtual airline reflects this view. The virtual airline that you are welcome to visit and join of course is called Virtualairhygge and is based at virtualsirhygge.com. So what is with the name 'hygge' . Well in fact it is an olde Norse word. Norse being the ancient language of norther Europe around the Scandinavian countries. Hygge means 'togetherness' and as such t…

This month is about FlightSim Easter Eggs. What is an FS Easter Egg you might ask? Easter Eggs in the computer software world are little hidden secrets developers write in to their software to give you a little shock and surprise should you find them. Easter Eggs have been in FlightSim since the early days back as far as FS4. Where the Prudential sign on One Prudential Plaza in downtown Chicago, would light up as the sun set. FS2000 added more Easter Eggs, like the tethered weather blimp 14,000 feet above the Florida Keys. Some of these Easter Eggs are very time specific, where others can be seen at any time. For this month’s challenge we are going back in time, back t…

Over the last 5½ years, Canadian Xpress® has visited some of the most amazing airports around the world. From time to time, we are going to hold a Throwback event of some of our earlier flights, so those pilots who are new to the flight simulator world can enjoy our past adventures. However these events aren’t simply just a recycle version of old. New flight plans, updated charts and scenery have been added where possible, to show off new add-ons and changes to the airports. This month we are doing a Throwback event to November of 2012 and revisiting Paro which is the only international airport in Bhutan. The airport is located 4 miles from Paro in a deep valley on th…

This month, we depart Chengdu Shuangli (ZUUU) and travel to the highest airport supported in the FS world, Qamdo-Bangda (ZUBD) Tibet that has an elevation of 14,219 ft. Runway 14/32 is the longest publicly used runway in the world, at 18,045 ft or 3.42 miles. Until 2013, Qamdo-Bangda (ZUBD) was the highest airport in the world. That title is now held by Daocheng Yading Airport which is 238 ft higher, however no scenery is currently available to support a support an event. The low air density at this altitude makes a higher takeoff and landing true airspeed necessary, and therefore a longer runway. The airport is 2.5 hours by mountain road from the county seat of Chamdu. …

Five years ago, a small group of dedicated flight simulator enthusiasts, found themselves looking for a new place to call home. Lots of ideas went back and forth and four months later with the simple slogan Fly Virtually Anywhere!, Canadian Xpress was born. In those short five years, Canadian Xpress has grown from a small start-up virtual airline with more aircraft than pilots, to a well known virtual airline within the online flight simulator community, hosting more than a hundred events a year, and currently the only VATSIM Canadian virtual airline authorized training organization (ATO) that allows us to train, evaluation and issue VATSIM P1 & P2 pilot ratings. All …

[Mar.26] Canadian Xpress March Fly-In - Ski Weekend In 1938, an explorer from a wealthy American family from Philadelphia named Joseph Bondurant Ryan came to the region prospecting gold. Accompanied by Harry Wheeler and Lowell Thomas, the American journalist, they climbed to the summit of Mont Tremblant with skis wrapped in seal skins for traction. After an exhausting trek to the summit, it's said that Joseph Ryan vowed to transform the landscape into a world-class alpine village. Only one year later, his dream was realized. On March 12, 1939, Joseph Ryan opened the Mont Tremblant Lodge, which remains part of the pedestrian village today. In its early years, Lowe…

This month, we depart Marseille Provence Airport (LFML) and travel to Courchevel is an airport serving Courchevel (LFML), a ski resort in the French Alps. The airfield has a very short runway of only 537 metres (1,762 ft) with a gradient of 18.6%. There is no go-around procedure for landings at Courchevel, due to the surrounding mountainous terrain. De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otters and DHC-7 turboprops served the airport in the past; however, the airfield primarily sees smaller fixed-wing aircraft such as Cessnas as well as helicopters at present. The runway has no instrument approach procedure or lighting aids, thus making landing in fog and low clouds unsafe and a…
