Most likely because you don't have those images uploaded...

well i have uploaded green-status.gif and red-status.gif in images folder but it doesn't shows again well here's my pilots_list.tpl

Save confusion and just link directly to the file:

Look for the image source in the vataware url i placed images in the site root /images, thats why yours are not showing up

Putting a / in front of the image path goes to the domain root. That's probably not what you want. Use an absolute URL
