well i have uploaded green-status.gif and red-status.gif in images folder but it doesn't shows again well here's my pilots_list.tpl

Save confusion and just link directly to the file:

<? echo SITE_URL; ?>/lib/skins/SKIN_NAME/images/IMAGE_NAME.gif

Putting a / in front of the image path goes to the domain root. That's probably not what you want. Use an absolute URL
