flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Have some problem adding airports. My VA is based in Alaska, and most of our routes only have 3 letter codes. In the section where you add airport, it states a 4 letter code. Is there a way to let it accept 3 letter airports. I am unable to add a airport. I get this error. There was an error adding the airport and if I do a look up for a 4 letter airport is stays in "Fetching Data..." Any ideas? Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 If it keeps saying 'fetching data', close the box and try again. Sometimes the web-service locks up. I get data from www.geonames.org, what are some of the airports you're adding? Enter them in the search box on geonames to see if they come up. I don't think I restrict it to three in the code (though I need the ICAO). I can check it. If they don't, then I guess you'll have to do it manually Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 It seems as though the geonames webservice is down right now. Quote
flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 Im starting with the first 13S Lake Louise Seaplane Base when I entered the 3 letter code and clicked on look up, I got the "Please enter the full 4 letter ICAO" Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 Then you have to enter "K13S", since that's the proper ICAO name. Geonames needs the 4 character ICAO code. But you can add the airport with 3 letters without using the "Find" to get the information. I would enter the proper ICAO code. Also, geonames doesn't have that airport in its database (as K13S), so you will have to manually enter the latitude/longitude. I would also send an email to geonames with the airports which are missing so they can add them into their database. Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 I found this here: https://www.globalair.com/airport/lake_louise/13S.aspx You can look the others up there to add them in manually, I hope that helps! Quote
davehardy Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 i use Wikipedia for the airport co-ordinates if that site craps out or cant find the one i want. Quote
flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 K13s wont work. Its actually 13S. http://www.airnav.com/airport/13s The reason that 13S is not in the database, is that many Alaska airports/Airfields are unmanned, etc. I have have to manualy put them into the FSACARS apt.txt Do you have the email I need to send the info? Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 Interesting, that's weird, that other site says: ICAO K13S IATA 13S Either way, geonames always wants the ICAO, or 4 letters so you have to enter the K either way to ID the country. As for an email, try info@geonames.org, I'm not sure if you'll get an answer though. Unfortunately, they're the only ones I have been able to find that has an XML/JSON service I can "talk" to. Quote
flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 I like the link above with K13s. I like it. When I enter K13S and manually eneter the long/Lat, I still get the error. I see it shows K13S on some sites, actually when you enter K13S on FS, you dont get Lake Louise. Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 I guess it's "technically" with the K on the front since that's how itll be referred internationally, depends on the source I guess. FS does some weird stuff. What's the error? I tried on my site, I was able to do it, just don't hit Look Up, go directly to add. Quote
flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 Highlighted in a pink box There was an error adding the airport That's all it says. Im doing it manually not clicking on Look up. Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 5, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 5, 2009 What if you add KDEN, click Lookup then Add. Does that work? I think there was another post on this somewhere Is the table there? You said you were having troubles with the install. Quote
flyalaska Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 If I add an airport like PANC it will look up, Cant manually add airports. I got all the tables in. Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 6, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 6, 2009 That's really weird. It's working on my test copy. I'll ask someone else to confirm as well. Sorry about that. You filled all the fields in? Quote
flyalaska Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 I got it working now, it was a permission issue. I forgot to change one file. Eddie Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 6, 2009 Administrators Report Posted January 6, 2009 Interesting, which file? Quote
