This month, Canadian Xpress® has been hired to move SAR equipment from Death Valley National Park, where it’s been supporting the Badwater Ultra-Marathon and other summer events in the valley, to its winter location at Lake Tahoe. One little catch to this mission, the Hawker Siddeley HS.748 and the BAe JetStream 41 are the only two cargo aircraft locally staged in this area that is able to operate out of Furnace Creek. Both are fine aircraft, however they can get a little picky in the hot weather. Your job is to load up the most cargo you can at Furnace Creek (L06) and make your way to Lake Tahoe Valley (KTVL). Join Canadian Xpress® today in order to participate as…

FlightSimCon is the annual flight simulator show and convention for all of us simmers. This year it’s being held at the New England Air Museum at Bradley Airport just outside of Hartford CT in Windsor Locks. All the big manufactures will be there at this year’s event including Aerosoft to Saitek to name a few. This month’s fly-in is going to take place during the event in to Bradley airport. VATSIM and Boston Virtual ATC will have exhibits at FlightSimCon, so there is a good chance our fly-in will be shown live at the event. To add to the realism for this event. The departure airport for this fly-in is from your home airport as you select when connecting to VATSI…

Anyone who is a fan of all things that fly, has probably watched The Discovery's Channels series called Mighty Planes. The 5th episode of their second season which aired in the middle of June was on the Boeing 737-200 operated by Nolinor Aviation based out of Montreal Mirabel airport. The show covered the operation of the 737-200 as it traveled from Mirabel to Val-D'Or, here it loaded up cargo for the giant mining company Agnico Eagle for transport to their Meadowbank mine in Nunavut. For this month's fly-in we wanted to recreate that route, however its 3+ hour flight that puts it outside our target flight time for these events. Furthermore, Meadowbank is a private airp…

For our virtual airline, St Paul Airlines, we seek a free volunteer webmaster. Our website currently works fine but we need a responsible person to ensure the maintenance and any necessary trimmings. Our current webmaster has to leave this function for professional reasons, having not enough time anymore to devote to this task. The work load is very light as everything is already working fine. You can have a look at our website at: http://www.stpaulairlines.com/ Do not hesitate to contact me for any further information. Yoland – CEO St Paul Airlines virtual ceo@stpaulairlines.com

This month, we head to Central America where if you dig mountain scenery, then that might help you feel a little less queasy about flying in or out of Toncontin Airport (MHTG) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Aircraft have to skirt around the mountains of the interior highlands to land in a valley 3,294 feet above sea level. On approach, airliners as big as Boeing 757s make a 45-degree bank to effectively reach the 7000-foot runway with well above average rates of descent. Winds require pilots to compensate while hustling their aircraft in a zig-zag path over the terrain. Departures require high rates of climb to clear the nearby peaks. Your mission is to departing from Miami (…

This month we hit 2 of the world’s most dangerous approaches in the warm Caribbean. Saba, Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport has the shortest commercial runway in the world, only 396 meters (1,299 ft) long, flanked on one side by high hills, with cliffs that drop into the sea at both ends. Saint Barthélemy, Gustaf III Airport short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle; departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers. Ranked the 3rd most extreme airport in the world by The History Channel. This month, your mission is to depart from Princess Juliana (TNCM) on th…
