  1. OK then, I am glad we have got that sorted (I think ).
  2. I really don't understand what you mean by "right now i'm following this fourms rules and i will not go this far to fight", but if you think I have done something wrong and want to discuss this further in a civil manner, then please do feel free to PM me. If I have somehow offended you, I would appreciate knowing and we can discuss this if you like.
  3. Vansers, my original post was sincere and not intended to cause an argument. You seem to think this was the case. So let me explain where I was coming from. The thread title is as follows: vACARS V1.0 Released for Beta Testing Now this would imply that the version available for downloading was in a state where it could be tested. We can't test it as it is not functional. Also in the OP's first post, it doesn't mention that the version available is not in a functioning state. So I was disappointed when i downloaded it and found it to be just a basic layout. I don't think it was being rude, offensive or unfair to mention this, especially as the OP created this thread to provide a space for us to offer feedback. I did also state that I was looking forward to seeing the application being developed. Now when I did give my opinion, I was accused of complaining by the OP, to which I stated that I wasn't, part of developing any software is being able to take constructive criticism from Beta testers and utilise it. Saying that someone is complaining is not the way to handle it. You seem to think that this could have developed into a fight, and I don't think it would have, but jumping in like that could have caused it.
  4. I wasn't fighting Vansers, I was pointing out that I wasn't complaining. It may have come across that I was complaining, and I wanted the op to know that I wasn't. Jumping the gun like this isn't going to help either The op did specify that this thread was for providing feedback, and I did. Nothing more, nothing less.
  5. I wasn't complaining, I was stating my opinion. That is part of the beta process after all, isn't it? I'm not trying to pull your work down, as I said I personally think holding off on the beta release till there was some functionality would have been more productive, but that's my own opinion. I also said I am looking forward to seeing where this goes.
  6. You have said that this release is for beta testing but there is absolutely no functionality as of yet. Wouldn't have been better calling it a non functional preview? I was disappointed when I downloaded and installed it to be honest. I personally would have held off on releasing this until is was ready for Beta release (ie working in some way, shape or form). Having said that though, if you pull this one off, it looks to be very promising. I look forward to the updates.
  7. Wouldn't it be better to keep the news seperate from events, especially if you are going to be using banners advertising the events? That's how I am hoping to utilise the events add on. Each banner will link through to the event info page. PS Simpilot: I have been testing the add on, and it's working fine on my site, just wanted to double check everything. http://britair.net/index.php/events
  8. Sorry I missed that post. I'm on 922 and the date pickers working fine for me.

    Logo Design

I would like to have a go, if that's OK with you Simpilot? I'm no expert, but I like messing with logos.
  10. Thanks for the info, and no worries - I've got a boat load of other work to do before I can get round to skinning.
  11. Your work on this module is very much appreciated Simpilot, I would like to thank you I have installed the add-on on my site, and will be skinning it up over the next few days, I had a look around the add-on and it's definitely a welcome addition! It will be a little diamond gem when I get around to using it live.
  12. There were a lot of things that I should have done differently, with regards to the planning of the VA. I was concentrating on getting loads of schedules, and a large fleet up and running, and then realised that it was soon becoming over complicated. It was easier to start again, while there was next to no pilot activity, than to try and work around the pilots using the website to redo the things that needed changing. This time around, I'm not going to be tempted into thinking bigger is better. I think that a small but well chosen fleet, along with well thought out schedules will appeal to more than going over the top and offering too much. I also want to concentrate on events and give our pilots some unique challenges. I'm also thinking of adding a regional only division, with some executive jets, flying only to UK and European capital city locations. The other division would be the mainstream one, with flights from the UK to most popular European and some US locations. Pilots would be free to fly flights from either division. As I said though, I don't want to be adding schedules willy nilly, and end up with a over complex and confusing schedule list. I am still in the planning process at the moment regards the schedule.
  13. Got to admit Simpilot, that profile page is great
  14. Hi Emil, Thnaks for the compliment The site is currently being worked on, so apologies for the dead links. Everything should be up and running pretty soon. Regards the fleet, I will be using pretty much the planes you mentioned, with the addition of a couple of turbo prop regional planes (ATR 72-500 & DCH8-400). I am open to suggestions though on the fleet and schedules. Thanks for joining btw, and my MSN addy is stuart at hexsys dot co do uk, if you want to have a chat about the VA. I will be busy tonight, but am free tomorrow evening or whenever is best for you Cheers, Stuart
  15. I am still working on the layout of the profile page at the mo, but here's how it is so far: I will probably use some rounded corner .png's on the table header backgrounds, with a nice gradient fill maybe too.
  16. Update on Britannia Air: I took the site offline some time ago now (a couple of weeks ago) because there were quite a few things I wanted to improve upon, both in the VA's structure and development stage. Although the VA was attracting new members, there was little or no activity from the majority of these pilots. I basically had a rethink of what I wanted Britannia Air to become, and how it should be getting there. I was concentrating too much on particular aspects of the VA, and not giving enough attention to other aspects. So I have taken Britannia Air right back to the drawing board, and I am trying to think of ways in which Britannia could stand out from the crowd and offer something unique. If I can find a few unique points then it stands Britannia in better stead against the competition. I am eagerly waiting for 2.1 to be released too, so I can start developing the website. I have some great new design ideas, with a new logo and repaints to be appearing. More importantly though, I am working hard at getting what Britannia offers as a VA to it's members right. I am hoping to have the site back up and running within a month, but as I am back at uni now, it will be as and when I can get it done. The positions available in my previous post are still up for grabs, so if anyone is interested in getting involved with Britannia Air from day zero, then just give me a shout. PS here's a sneak preview of the new logo (first draft):

    Licensing

I agree. I am a relative newcomer to phpVMS, and what got me hooked is the community spirit behind the software. That and the fact that phpVMS is very easy to work with, very well coded and the add-ons provided by others are a great bonus too. I believe in thanking someone who has helped me, by placing links to the authors website etc, when using any addons and also phpVMS itself too. It's my small way of showing my appreciation. I think anyone who tries to make financial gains off other peoples work should really be ashamed of themselves. The same applies for people who try to pass off other peoples work as their own. I have no problem with people who want to commercialise their own work, but when people are being sly and dishonest, it makes me pretty angry. The same goes for people who are trying to sell their services as web designers but clearly lack experience and the skills neccessary. I'm not tarring everyone with the same brush, as there as some very talented designers on these forums. But there are also those who are just hoping to use this forum as a cash cow, have little knowledge and experience and that makes me angry too. Rant over now, and I am off to find the dummy I just spat out
  18. Very well done on this milestone, and here's to many more Congrats!!

@ Kieran, do you think Coke would be happy with Pepsi using their brand? @ Nabeel, I can send you the Photoshop file, and you can play around with fonts if you like, or if you have one in mind I can use it no probs. Glad you like it by the way.
