dale152
Hey, I'm new to this forum so please excuse me if this is in the wrong place. I am getting my VA I started earlier this month ready for people to sign up. I'm trying to use CCFTracker. I've installed the Module to my core/modules as per the installation. I then installed the pilot client and I entered all the appropriate details. I've seen previous threads about this issue and I can confirm that: There are no silly errors with like spelling or putting the module in the wrong folder directory. I am running CCFTracker in administrator. I have checked and double checked my pilot ID and password against what I've got on the airline's website. The link is correct (as far as I am aware it is, I've entered http://crew.a2b.rf.gd/) I've tried a reinstallation and repair of CCFTracker client, as well as a complete removal and reinstallation of the module (just in case I'd picked up a corrupt install or something) It's probably something really obvious but I just can't see it. Appreciate your help on this. Thanks. Edited June 23, 2020 by dale152
Administrators ProAvia Posted June 23, 2020 Administrators Report Share Posted June 23, 2020 It seems you are using free hosting, so many things will not work as you may expect. Additionally, I think the VA URL should point to the main site and not to the crew center.

Yeah, I'm using infinityfree.net before I start investing into it to find out it doesn't work. Also I've tried the main site, and I've had no success. I had a go with some other ACARS. I found one called cACARS, but it doesn't seem to be stable on my device, getting some xml errors.
Administrators ProAvia Posted June 23, 2020 Administrators Report Share Posted June 23, 2020 Find out WHAT doesn't work? Trying to use phpVMS on free hosting is a pain and won't work with many addons. If you are serious about starting a new VA, pony up for paid hosting for a few months to see how it goes. You can find many shared hosts for well under 10 USD per month. If you aren't in a position to pay for hosting right now, install phpVMS locally on your computer using WAMP or XAMPP. You can add skins amd modules to tweak your site. But before going live, you will need paid hosting. Another option is to join one of the many VA's currently in operation. To find out phpVMS and CCFTracker doesn't work on the hosting service I am using. And yes, I am serious about starting a VA, but it's only in the infant stages at the moment - hence not purchasing a domain yet. I think you're avoiding the point of the CCFTracker. You've managed to provide support for other users on this topic, but it seems because I don't have paid hosting yet, I'm irrelevant.

Hey Dale, ProAvia is one of the most helpful individuals on this forum and definitely goes way above and beyond to help whenever he can. He is not saying that you are irrelevant and avoiding any assistance to you, he is simply stating that without a paid domain and solid paid host, options are very limited on what you are able to do. Free hosts do not give you nearly half of what is required to successfully run phpVMS and without your own domain name, like ProAvia stated, you are limited to using a local option or trying to force things to "play nicely" with a free domain. I would be willing to bet that once you get the paid hosting and secure your domain name that you would have this working 100% or at least have a better idea of where to start troubleshooting.
Administrators ProAvia Posted June 23, 2020 Administrators Report Share Posted June 23, 2020 I did NOT say you are irrevlevant. I said that phpVMS does NOTwork 100% with free hosting - as confirmed by CCFTracker in your case. phpVMS works great on shared, dedicated and VPN paid hosting. Many (most) free hosts have restrictions in place for php addons or other hosting limitations that won't allow all required functions to work.
Strider
This crops up time and again, yes a lot of free hosts don't work with phpvms, but that does n ot mean they all dont. Without information as to what the host is providing for free you can't just paint it with one brush. Have you checked your firewall have you put in the address correctly? Check to see what the host has activated and what it doesn't have. Not everyone is in the position to go striaight into paid hosting as they may not have money to get it. I know when i started MVA my VA first, i did not have money to get hosting, as I was still in school, had no job. So instead of jumping down someones throat about them having free hosting, try to help them. And sorry but it does come accross that if they have free hosts they are irrelevant. No matter how good your intentions are.

Granted paid hosting is obviously better than free hosting in terms of what works and doesn't - but like you say, I feel like I'm wrong for not buying something that's optional to start with... I've seen plenty of VAs using infinityfree under free hosting with no issue (though I don't know what ACARS client they use). I am relatively new to phpVMS and the VA scene, and, like I mentioned before, spending money on something that I don't like or won't work isn't viable for me at this stage. On your other point, I've allowed CCFTracker through my firewall, with no effect. I still believe that this issue originates in the Module, rather than the client.b Edited June 23, 2020 by dale152

And is the details of your VA in the setup correct? Yeah, it requires being ran as an administrator anyway. Certain the details of the VA are correct, I've even reset my password just to make sure it's not a silly mistake. It's something to do with the module, pretty sure. Do I need to enable it in the phpVMS Admin panel or something?
Strider
No, it has no admin settings. Do other acars programs work, as it may be that your host doesn't allow acars programs to connect to it as they can require more processing power then normal, as it can look like a brut force attach. That is one reason free hosts are not great with VA's

That is one reason free hosts are not great with VA's I tried cACARS, along with another program, though I forgot its name, and I had no success due to the programs being unstable. I could try changing the PHP version, do you think that would make a difference? Edited June 25, 2020 by dale152

Strider
You have to be careful what version php version you upgrade to, simpilots phpvms 5.5.2 will install onto php 7.1, but you will have to edit some files to get rid of errors. there is a phpvms 5.5.2.72 which will install onto php 7.2 but if you are to add modules, they may require editing to work without error on php 7.2. Your problem is more likely your host doesn't allow connections from programs as it doesn't want to risk a brut force attack, which an acars program can mimic at times. Especially if you have a lot of pilots flying at the same time.

I was using 000webhost some time ago, but the databases didn't allow proper data entry (something to do with their permissions), and the modules have been the issue with infinityfree. I will look into some paid hosting. Thank you for your help.
Strider
The hosting i am with are very reasonable. You can get very good hosting cheaply that will allow phpvms to work properly. Just make sure you can choose a lower php version as some may have removed older versions.

Do you mind me asking who you are with? I can choose PHP versions 5.4 - 5.7 and 7.1.
