kACARS and Windows 11

Hello.

I have a member that has a new PC with Win11 on it.

He installed kACARS v1.0.11, the version we use. I have win10, so I have no experience with Win11.

I know kACARS uses one of the C++ packages, I don't remember which, don't know if that's the issue, or something else. I don't have any experience with Win11, so that makes it hard to diagnose the problem.

Here's the error message he's getting when he launches kACARS "Unhandled exception has occurred in you application"

Does anyone here have kACARS working on Windows 11?

If so, were there any issues with getting kACARS working?

Thank you for your help and time.

I know kACARS doesn't work v7 my site is v5.

You initially posted in the phpVMS v7 Support forum. I moved your post here.

Does he have .NET 4.0 installed?

Does he have FSUIPC installed for his specific sim version?

Is he running kACARS_Free as Admin?

Are you able to connect to your site with kACARS_Free?

If the above doesn't work, he may have a corrupt .NET install and will need to reinstall.

If that doesn't work, maybe try installing .NET 3.5

You indicated you require kACARS_Free 1.0.1.1 (there is no 1.0.11) - is your site using 'http' or 'https'?

'https' requires kACARS_Free 1.0.1.5 and supports FS9, FSX, P3D, MSFS and XP - requires use of FSUIPC or XPUIPC (sim specific)

My PC is windows 10, my site is https and my phpVMS is 5.5.2 and I can connect my kACARS free 1.0.1.1 just fine and it works with FS9, FSX, P3D, X-Plane 11, X-Plane 12 and FS2020 with no issues, but this user has windows 11. I have no experience with Win11, so I thought it might be a compatibility issue with win 11.

I will forward your post to this user.

Considering that W11 is a polished W10, there is less chance that kAcars will be incompatible with OS, most probably your pilot is missing required .net packages (or maybe some vb runtimes). W11 does not come with old .net editions which are not supported anymore, this makes old software fail most of the time.

Win 11 will work with kACARS_Free - but.... the user needs to install .NET 3.5 - which doesn't come with Win11. A quick Google search for .NET 3.5 for Windows 11 will lead you to exactly how to do that.

.NET 4.8 (I think) comes with Windows 11. If adding .NET 3.5 doesn't solve the users issue, have them reinstall .NET 4 also.

Let us know if that works.
