Europe Virtual Airlines staff positions
mischka replied to joelwelford's topic in Virtual Airlines Discussion
why another european airline? there's already several european virtual airlines: http://european.virtualairlines.eu http://www.flyeurope-va.org and another one i think, i forgot the url how are you going to be different from these? -
you could make just one schedule for each aircraft type, give the route number the same as the aircraft icao code and make them file that eg a flight for Airbus A321 would have flight number A321, they'd pick the corresponding airbus from the list and tadaa there you go

Soar Virtual Airlines new paint scheme!
mischka replied to thawksworth's topic in Virtual Airlines Discussion
is the name "soar" inspired on the AI airline we know from fsx? Anyway nice website, well done! -
I also think cookies would be the answer. does phpvms use cookies already?

Hey guys, When a potential pilot (or somebody interested for whatever reason) comes first to my website, I'd like to show them some kind of video/demo/intro. obviously, return visitors shouldn't see this. detecting a logged-in pilot is easy enough, but how to check if somebody comes for first time to my page? thanks in advance

Hey guys, I wonder if anyone could help me on this one: I want to check if a visitor is on a certain page, and then have the page display something. reason is: I have a page with a forum and a chatbox. So if somebody goes to this page, I want the homepage to show this, so that other pilots also be tempted and visit the forum/chatbox to meet their colleagues. Obviously, if the user moves to the next page, this should also be detectable. can this be done?

I'm using vanilla, mainly due to the single sign-on with phpvms

Yes, you probably have to google it, I think we all do. It might be an idea to create a database with all the airplanes and their weights etc but to my knowledge there's nothing like that now Once you googled all the data though, you could put it in an excel file, and export that as CSV. Via the database backend you can import it directly to the DB this will save you much work compared to typing it all in

Just added it now. And about the .eu: as tom already said its not eu specific, just like a .com is not USA-specific Its just the tld that I chose at the time for various reasons. I'll probably remove the EU emphasis at some point in the near future though, but at the moment its just a detail

I had this idea some time ago but never the time to realise it. Now though, I've put my shoulders under it and here is the result: http://www.virtualairlines.eu There's probably still a few details to fine-tune but I won't find out until a couple airlines register and put their data in, so please sign up! It's totally for free and setting up your VA shouldn't take much time. There is also a forum so if you have any questions or problems or suggestions you can post it there or contact me directly. Any registered airline can send me a press statement which will be published right on the homepage. If you upload a banner it may appear right on the homepage as well, depending on your click-through rate I'm looking forward to your registrations and remember: no matter at how many other sites like vacentral or va-list you advertise, any extra publicity means extra pilots in a tough competitive VA world

About a year ago I had the idea to make a virtual airline search engine, see this thread: http://forum.phpvms.net/topic/8440-anyone-interested-in-a-va-search-engine/ For those in a hurry without time to look through the thread: I proposed (and now created) a search engine where pilots can find a VA that suits their specific needs eg one that lets them fly their favourite aircraft and/or their home airport, VATSIM/IVAO support, real or fictional airline, restrictions like jumpseat or entry exam etc etc. At the time I had other things to do, and never got it off the ground. Hi Guys, I'm not sure I'm the only one, but I've had intermittent issues with vacentral in the past few weeks, and its sometimes affecting my site, so I'm not a happy chappy! On my homepage I have the vacentral rank and score displayed, but it often happens that the vacentral site can't be reached and I get a barrage of errors on the homepage. Also, sometimes filing pireps is very slow. I don't know for certain if this is due to the site sending the pirep to vacentral or due to some other issue? But often the slow loading of homepage and the pirep issue go together! So far, this could all be down to my provider ie the server on which my site is hosted not being fast enough. HOWEVER... the vacentral ranking of my VA has been up and down recently between our regular score (in the low 70's, high 60's) and the bottom end of the vacentral rank. Surely this is some issue with vacentral? if anyone can shed a light on this, i'd be gratefull. Otherwise I'll just chuck vacentral alltogether...

Today I got an email from my hosting provider We have received notification about compromised website virtualairlines.eu. Please check the attachment for more detailed information. Also, we have scanned your website files with server antivirus and it found the following infected files. admin/modules/Settings/NoFree.php: PHP.Hide FOUND admin/modules/SiteCMS/thumb.php: PHP.C99-13 FOUND default.php: PHP.Hide FOUND Looks like they now managed to get into one of my sites, even though the ofc_upload_image file wasn't there anymore... I deleted it a few days ago! Judging from the timestamps of several files in my root, the files were created on 1st of October.

I think it's just for the kicks and the adrenaline rush, honestly. In this case there is no money to gain, and some had a warning that the site was hacked that's all. It's like petty criminals that once become bankrobbers... these are the guys who will hack into your bank account a few years from now! I wonder if we couldn't develop an "anti-hack" by modifying the script in such a way that if they use it they will harm their own computer? That'd be cool

thanks for the heads-up on this! i also found the .wp-moon.php file but no other suspicious files in any of the roots of my website(s) and no damage has been done. I did get a lot of phpvms system emails about users who subscribed but looking in the system those users never appeaed. It was always something like Firstname FirstnameXX where the two firstnames was always the same and XX some random capital letters. Does this sound familiar to you guys? Could it be related? I trust Nabeels efforts to keep this secure but not necesarily all other developers, including myself! :-/

Why would you want that anyway? If somebody decides to come back after a long time, why throw a hurdle to start flying again when he has 1094485098284 other VA's to choose from?
-
sorry, totally missed this till now. I put it in schedulesdata I think.. so you would call it with SchedulesData::CalcFuelFlows()

phpvms doesn't care whether the airline is for fsx, flightgear, x-plane or whatever it does care, unfortunately, about certain features usually connected with paid hosting, although I couldn't put my finger on what those are. My personal experience with phpvms and free hosting: it's a waste of time!

You can get the fuel flow from your own PIREPS. Once you have 20-30 pireps per aircraft type it should be reliable enough. Obviously the more pireps the more reliable the calculations will be. I use the following code to update a field "fuelflow" in my aircraft table: function CalcFuelFlows () { $sql="select icao, count(icao) amount, sum(fuelused) totalfuelused, sum(duration) totalduration, sum(fuelused)/sum(duration) average from ("; $sql=$sql." SELECT aircraft, icao, fuelused, flighttime_stamp, hour(flighttime_stamp)+ (minute(flighttime_stamp)/60) duration"; $sql=$sql." FROM `ACS_pireps`, ACS_aircraft"; $sql=$sql." WHERE ACS_pireps.aircraft=ACS_aircraft.id and ACS_aircraft.fuelflow<>0) pireps group by icao"; $averages = DB::get_results($sql); foreach($averages as $aircraft) { $sql="update `ACS_aircraft` set fuelflow=".$aircraft->average." WHERE icao='".$aircraft->icao."'"; DB::query($sql); echo "<br>".$sql; } return "success"; } That will set the average fuel flow for each aircraft type. You can then calculate the amount of fuel you need depending on the trip length plus an hour reserve and some hold/taxi fuel. Note that if your phpvms counts fuel in Lb than these values will be in Lb, if you set it in KG it'll be in KG. Note also if you want to use this for your system you must change the tablename prefix from ACS_ to whatever you have.

I think that's an excellent idea and a good solution to the issue

Hello There is one script on my VA website that sometimes produces this error. I wish for this one script to be able to run longer.. it runs maybe once a week or so, and thus it's not a problem any takers?
-
exactly! even if the internet works, there might be problems with the VA website or some other reason why acars can't connect. Or, if your pc shut down midflight and you resume from a save-file, there's no way kacars will cooperate.. you'd have to file manually. acars is all very handy but I wouldn't want to miss a pirep because of it, even when filed manually. That's both for me as a pilot as well as from a VA perspective
