danmand Posted January 7, 2010 Report Posted January 7, 2010 I'd like to setup a chat server so our pilots can talk to each other. Can anyone guide me on how to learn more about this. Two criteria. #1 it has to be free #2 I'd like to be able to integrate it somehow with phpVMS Thanks 5 Quote
TAV1702 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 If there is enough interest, I can get us an mIRC channel. I happen to have acces to a IRC server and am on it almost every single day. Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 8, 2010 Administrators Report Posted January 8, 2010 I think there are Java apps you can integrate into your web page for chats. Quote
Administrators simpilot Posted January 8, 2010 Administrators Report Posted January 8, 2010 Are you trying to voice chat or just text? - There are good freeware apps for both. Quote
Kritikdevelopment Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I believe eddy from FlyAKA has a shout out box that works great, maybe ask him if he could throw you a link ;D! Quote
TAV1702 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 oops. my bad. :-[ I thought he meant as in general like a support/chat line here. Flash Chat is a great chat app as well, but it is 5$ and not so sure it would integrate into phpVMS like using user info and such. Quote
danmand Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 So if understand right, a chat program written in java or flash would be the way to go. I don't know anything about programming and very little about html. I was wondering if it would be easy to just add a page in the phpVMS admin panel and somehow put the chat program there? Sorry, I'm still in the "learning" phase :-[ Quote
Administrators simpilot Posted January 8, 2010 Administrators Report Posted January 8, 2010 Here is a straight forward chat script you could intergrate into phpvms -> http://www.peachydandy.com/scripts.php and here is a pretty good shoutbox -> http://www.gerd-tentler.de/tools/shoutbox/ Quote
danmand Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 That was just what I needed. Thanks. I'm going to use "simplechat" from peachydandy.com. I launch the program by loading the simplechat.php file. So, I've gone into the admin panel in my VA and added a page called "chat". How do I load the simplechat.php file from there? Can I do it in a way that will keep my va banner on the top and the navigation buttons on the left side like the rest of my site? Thanks for the help. Quote
Administrators Nabeel Posted January 9, 2010 Administrators Report Posted January 9, 2010 You'll have to edit that html page manually in core/pages/chat.htm (that's what i tmight be called). Then in that file just follow the instructions simple chat gives you to integrate the page (it might be some PHP code) Quote
Guest CableGuy Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 also a good idea would be to keep it where you must be logged into the chat therefore your call sign would be the user name, causing all the other kiddies to not be able to view. Quote
danmand Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 I got it to work thanks to all of yoiu. I may actually get this airline off the ground ;D Quote
flyalaska Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 http://www.tufat.com has a nice flashchat, only $5 or free without the source files. I use that aswell. I also use Yshout, which is a shoutbox . That is $5 aswell. With Flashchat it comes with a bridge to PHPBB2 and PHPBB3 and SMF, aswell a tons of other CMS programs. Quote
G-NEWC Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 You could also opt for hosting an FShost server which allows you to chat to other pilots and see them on FS Multiplayer at the same time. Quote
Moderators mark1million Posted January 17, 2010 Moderators Report Posted January 17, 2010 Thats what i run fshost server with teamspeak Quote
llju1 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 anyway of integrating the simple chat or any shout box on to the front page such as Roger has on his site. I am sure it is just simple code but as usual my cobweb clouded old brain is mission some thing. I really just need a shout box on my front page. Thanks Lloyd Quote
llju1 Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Never Mind everyone lol. I am using shout box and used an inline frame not I have a shout on my site. So simple to use Quote
