Peeps, I need to ask this.

What exactly do bids do? How I approve them and why would I? I am only a 1 man VA so is that something to do with it?

It's just basically saving flights for later. There's also settings that if someone bids on the flight, it's unavailable for any other pilots to fly or bid one

Is there an option for how long a bid stays active for, for instance if a pilot bids then doesnt fly it within 48 hours the system will delete it?

Look in you local config, if not, copy the setting from your app.config to teh local config file
