aarbee
What forum is a good option? Vanilla or SMF? I know SMF, but do not Vanilla.
Strider
Go with what you know. People have different preferences, I myself use IPB. But you don't have to go down the paid route if you want to keep costs to a minimum.
mischka
I have a vanilla forum and would take it again if I'd start a new VA. Its a bit different than usual forums but thats ok... the best thing is it has a "bridge" with phpvms so pilots dont need to create a separate account and can log in with 1 click once they are online on phpvms note you have to install the bridge yourself, I think its a simpilot plugin if I remember correctly. Its a bit of work but you save your pilots a lot of hassle, which will ultimately bring more visitors.
aarbee
smf has a bridge too, if I am correct. I know several foa, also PHPBB. I find my way around. Install all fora in a folder like \www\forumfolder? @Mischka, is it true that the Vanilla looks as a flat forum?
flyalaska
I use IPB, if you don't want the cost, go with phpBB. Better support than SMF.
aarbee
But no bridge for IPB and phpBB?

aarbee
I think I go with smf. never used vanilla. But still, where to install? in the tree of phpvms, or on a seperate branche? Seems to mee the most logical.
Strider
If you are going to use a bridge, the database must be in the same one as your phpvms is installed into. The forum itself, the part members see, can be in a separate and needs to be in a separate folder/subfolder, as the index.php in the smf forum, will over write the index.php that comes with phpvms, and it will break your VA up. aarbee
Strider, Thanks. It is as I expected it. Yes I am using the bridge. And I did read about using the same database, only with a different prefix. So backup time. Just in case.
