I have a vanilla forum and would take it again if I'd start a new VA. Its a bit different than usual forums but thats ok... the best thing is it has a "bridge" with phpvms so pilots dont need to create a separate account and can log in with 1 click once they are online on phpvms

note you have to install the bridge yourself, I think its a simpilot plugin if I remember correctly. Its a bit of work but you save your pilots a lot of hassle, which will ultimately bring more visitors.

If you are going to use a bridge, the database must be in the same one as your phpvms is installed into. The forum itself, the part members see, can be in a separate and needs to be in a separate folder/subfolder, as the index.php in the smf forum, will over write the index.php that comes with phpvms, and it will break your VA up.
